MATCH REPORT
SATURDAY 3 SEPTEMBER
BANSTEAD ATHLETIC 0 – 2 SHEERWATER
COMBINED COUNTIES LEAGUE SOUTH
The Sheers travelled to Banstead with a number of changes from the previous week’s starting line up. There was delayed kick off due the debate between both sides and referee on the pitch standard and the white lines visibility including a dog mess clear up but the game eventually went ahead at 3-10. The Sheers forwards could have reaped dividends in chasing down early on Harvey Rackley-Hayes’s long goal kick on 3 minutes. Harvey Rackley-Hayes takes the ball well after a long range effort from Fazodi on 5 minutes. First corner of the match goes to the home side that does not trouble the Sheers. Sheers first real threat on 11 minutes from a Tahir Carmichael long throw into the box that falls into the path of Joe Gritt who shoots past the post. On 13 minutes Callum Coen brings the high ball down well and delivers a ball into the box that is then recycled back into the box by Danilo Cadete for Cameron Edwin that the A’s keeper Gordon wins the race for the ball. The A’s forward somehow manages to square the ball into the box from the bye line that surprises the Sheers keeper before gathering the ball. Sheers Joe Gritt defends for a corner with the A’s chance hitting the side netting. Sheers best chance of the half on 46 minutes with a cross from Trevor Mutero that is nicely left by Callum Coen for the better positioning of Danilo Cadete who strikes the ball well that the A’s keeper Gordon dives to his right to make a good save.
Half time 0-0
The Sheers take the lead on 47 minutes with Cameron Edwin holding up the ball for Hugo Silveiro to lash the ball across the keeper into the far side of the A’s net. The A’s no 10 Akiotu has a good attempt on 49 minutes that goes over the target. The Sheers are denied a penalty from referee Crowhurst after Cameron Edwin is felled in the box on 54 minutes. On 64 minutes the Sheers go 2-0 up after Danilo Cadete has a 1 on 1 with a defender with the ball falling to Cameron Edwin, first shot is blocked but he hits home the rebound to score his third goal of the campaign. Sheers Danilo Cadete’s quick thinking as the ball comes quickly to shoot just over the A’s bar on 65 minutes. 69 minutes new player for the Sheers Will Shaw left strike goes over the A’s bar. Sheers press in the last 10 minutes to make the game safe with a Rayjon Moore bringing out a great save from the A’s keeper from his volley, Mark Dunckley's back header just misses the target and Will Shaw’s shot goes wide after good work by Rayjon Moore who then has a glorious chance to score in the closing minutes.
This was a decent all round performance from all the starting eleven and the 5 substitutes who all made it onto the pitch.
Man of the Match Mark Dunky Dunckley.
